Is A Sense Of Overwhelm Getting In The Way Of Your Sense Of Stability?

Has ongoing or increasing stress affected your work performance, mood, and daily routine?

Are you always on high alert—inundated by worries and often imagining the worst-case scenario?

Do you have a hard time feeling relaxed or confident in yourself and your decisions?

Anxiety has a way of infiltrating every moment of the day. Despite feeling exhausted at night when it’s time to go to bed, you may often feel wired or like you can’t slow down your thoughts. In the mornings, you might wake up feeling unrested or immediately overwhelmed by the day’s to-do list. And by the time you arrive at work or embark on other responsibilities, you’re already at your limit—feeling frustrated, burnt out, and alone as the cycle continues.

Without A Sense Of Stability, It’s Difficult To Stay Connected

Constant stress has probably impacted your relationships. Maybe your friends, family, or coworkers have remarked on changes in your mood and demeanor. Maybe your relationships themselves are the source of your stress. Perhaps you’ve noticed the cycle of anxiety playing out in your interactions with others as you battle feelings of irritability and the tendency to “overthink” just about everything.

Many clients come to therapy not necessarily identifying their issues as stress or anxiety—they just know they feel chronically busy, in constant action mode, and it’s all catching up to them. Fortunately, counseling teaches you how to slow down the cycle of stress and anxiety so it’s not so distracting and present throughout the day.

Internalized Anxiety Is Often Made Worse By External Factors

Anxiety doesn’t come from just one place, and there are a range of factors that influence how we internalize stress. Many experiences—from family dynamics to common stressors to sudden traumas or changes in circumstance—have the potential to trigger feelings of panic and overwhelm that can evolve into chronic anxiety if left unchecked.

For people of color, Black women and men in particular, such stressors are exacerbated by a culture that’s often racist and intolerant. When we experience microaggressions and other racist behaviors, alarm bells begin to go off, which is our body’s way of alerting us to danger. But if we’re consistently living with this threat, it exhausts and overwhelms the nervous system to the point that we don’t know what’s “normal” anymore.

Counseling Can Help

If you are one of the millions of Americans living with anxiety, know that you are not alone. In fact, anxiety is one of the most common issues driving people to seek therapy. Chronic stress can make it difficult to determine where one feeling ends and another begins, but the counseling process is designed to help you gain a deeper understanding and self-awareness on the path to healing.

As we trace your fears and worries back to their root causes, you can learn essential skills and perspectives for regulating stress. And I am here to walk alongside you every step of the way.

Insightful Clarity Counseling Specializes In Anxiety Treatment For BIPOC Clients And Women

I know it’s tempting to think, I’ve always dealt with anxiety, or, I have so much to do; I can’t imagine going to therapy right now, but if your stress levels have become unmanageable, then treatment may be necessary.

As a therapist, I specialize in a range of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, and the emotional impacts of ADHD. While I work with adults from all backgrounds in therapy, my practice is particularly well-suited to BIPOC clients and women experiencing acute anxiety.

What To Expect

My counseling approach is collaborative and highly individualized to each client’s unique anxiety symptoms and concerns. We will begin treatment with a discussion of your history and goals before delving into the deeper work of examining your core values, with the goal of letting go of negative beliefs, unhelpful thoughts, and counterproductive stress responses.

I use an integrated, person-centered treatment approach that draws from elements of mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and solution-focused counseling to help clients overcome the anxiety cycle. Through this process, you will gain the skills needed to manage immediate, surface-level symptoms while also developing the emotional insights that will lead to long-term relief. I recognize that you are the expert on your life and will encourage you to use both new and existing coping mechanisms as long as they’re actually working for you.

While I can’t make any specific promises about therapy, I do know that this process has the potential to change your life in deep and lasting ways. Progress is not always linear, dramatic, or “big,” and it’s the small steps that pave the way for more substantial progress. I want to help you make space for both the big and small changes in your life so that you can experience less busy-ness and more peace.

Common Questions About Therapy For Anxiety…

Therapy is too expensive.

I understand that cost may be a factor in deciding whether to go to therapy or not, which is why I try to make this process as accessible as possible for clients. In addition to self-pay options, I partner with Aetna to offer services for those with mental health benefits. I also have a limited number of sliding scale spaces available to clients with financial limitations.

If you are serious about moving forward with therapy but unsure how you’ll afford it, contact me to learn more about the various funding resources that might be available.

My schedule is so full already—I don’t know how I will make time for anxiety treatment.

I understand that making time can be a big issue, especially when you’re feeling so stressed and overwhelmed by your schedule as is. Part of building a strong therapeutic relationship involves taking your concerns into consideration and working with your schedule to ensure the counseling process is effective.

That said, consistency is a key aspect of developing a trusting relationship, especially at the outset of therapy. I ask that clients commit to weekly sessions, at least initially, and we can always evaluate if bi-weekly or monthly sessions would be effective down the line.

I’ve tried treatment for anxiety before and it wasn’t effective. How will your approach be any different?

It’s understandable if you’re skeptical about the effectiveness of therapy, especially if you’ve had less-than-satisfactory treatment experiences in the past.

Though I can’t make any specific promises or guarantees about outcomes, I can tell you that as a person-centered therapist, I am genuinely invested in helping you find relief from anxiety. Progress is not always linear, but I will be with you every step of the way as you gain the skills and insights needed to heal.
